Brown recluse can be much more deadlier than a black widow.....it carries necrotizing facia-itis (spelling)....a flesh-eating virus.

On Thursday I took my daughter and two other students cave-crawling at Lava Beds National Monument. It was snowing like crazy and inside the caves it was actually preferable. Before leaving, I decided to use the boots I'd worn in the Middle East back in the First Gulf War. I'd not worn them in probably 10 years. Before putting them on, I made extra sure that there were no spiders hiding in them. middle east gulf war 10 years extra spiders hiding Lava Beds National Monument

I would have checked those boots also..... cave crawling sounds like a blast....;)

Both times I've been in wartime conditions I did that every time I put them on.

Cave crawling is a blast. Bring kneepads and a *******. Two flashlights with fresh batteries suggested as well.

Our officials kept denying we had recluses here too. Over the past five years I kept running into people who been bitten, or knew someone that had been bitten though. Each time the hospital would deny the antidote saying we did not have them, and the people would return with the wounds rotting off before they finally would get treated for the recluse bite. By then the treatments are too late and there is a lot of damage.

Finally, with so many recorded bites appearing in the emergency rooms, they had to reluctantly admit that the recluse is here in New Mexico

There's a rumor that there's something like a $10,000 bounty for bringing a brown recluse to Stanford University to prove that there's brown recluses in California.

Do they want me to catch one here in Oregon and smuggle it to California? It is only a few miles to the state line! lol

Actually, neither is worse than the other. The Black Widow venom attacks the nervous system. The Brown Recluse attacks the tissue. One stops the heart, the other eats through you, without proper medication, until you die. They are both equally bad.

I have both spiders in my area, and although a black widow can make you sick, the recluse will rot your skin off. I knew a clerk who was bitten in the arm, and parts of her arm just kept rotting away layer after layer. Finally, she had to leave her job.

Well with experience of being bitten three times in my life.... they are worse. The reason being is that they can be easily provoked and if they feel like their space is being evaded they will come after you. And with that, signs show up within a few days, and you can never know unless you've been bitten quite a bit of times.

I've known some who have let it go for so long they had to amputate legs, arms, fingers and so forth. others, ive know as ******** and elderly people die from them. They are worse than a black widow because of that.

Black widows, if you leave them alone, they leave you alone basically. Ive been around both for about 19 years and was never bitten by a black widow.

I would say the brown recluse. Black widows venom is different fromt he BR but the BR's bite does damage to the tissue. Both can lead to serious damage

They're dangerous but people overreact. You can't really blame them either, they're only the way *** made them.

Yes, Brown Recluse toxins are necrotic. But 2/3 of people bitten experience necrotic skin lesions. There are no recorded deaths of the brown recluse in the U.S. Yes, the Recluse's bite is more venomous than a rattlesnake's, but remember there's ****** any venom being injected into you with a spider.

Funny this gets mentioned. I have an exchange student from Siberia in my household. She killed a brown recluse this morning and asked me what it was.

She then started to research it on her laptop and when she saw the pictures of bits she got really concerned. Apparently there is nothing like this where she comes from.

We kill the ******* on sight.

With a black widow you might get sick for a day but brown recluse toxin can eat a considerable amount of flesh.
