Few issues have inflamed passions as strongly as that of capital punishment. Religious communities have been involved on both sides of the debate. The debate has been complicated by questions regarding the fairness of the criminal justice system and the possibility of reform and rehabilitation.

Religious communities have been involved on both sides of the debate. Hindus, for example, have no official stand, but Hinduism opposes killing, violence and revenge.

According to one site, the United Church of Christ called for an *** of the death penalty siting that the "Ten Commandments teach "Thou shall not kill", stating that "Jesus rejected retribution and that Scripture repeatedly call us to overcome evil with good and to transform hatred with love."

Scientology doesn't take an official stance on the topic - but the death penalty is clearly inconsistent with the teachings of Buddhism as Buddhists place a great deal of emphasis on non-violence and a compassion for all life.

Two-thirds of Americans support the death penalty for people convicted of murder. Most Americans oppose the death penalty for those who committed offenses when they were under the age of 18.

Where do you stand on the issue of the death penalty?

We would like to be like Jesus but we are not. In some cases ,some killers ,deserve to meet him early.

You kill someone you die. You defiled a ***** you die, same day sentence is given. No waiting period, no waiting lines.

I am totally for it, if it is beyond the reason of doubt or were caught in the act then 24 hrs later you should be taken out and executed. If you cannot do the time or punishment then don't to the crime!!!

follow on questions; did the defendant attempt to conceal what they'd done? Yes - execute; No - maybe
what was the defendant's prior criminal history?

What is the likelihood they'll kill again? High - execute, low - who cares?

I support the death penalty certainly for first degree murder. I might support it for somewhat "lesser" crimes like second degree murder or maybe serial ****. Certainly the monsters who non-violent felons in prison day in and day out should be put to death.

I am against the death penalty and abortion. To be for one and against the other is hypocritical.

To murder an innocent ***** is much different than punishing a violent criminal for heinous acts against humanity. It's hypocritical of people to say what you did.

No, it's not. I don't believe in abortion, especially late-term abortion, and I think people who have committed heinous crimes should be kept in solitary confinement, forced to do **** labor, no TV, no computers, one hour of fresh air per day. Their lives should be made as difficult as possible. In case someone is innocent of the crime they are in prison for, the innocents go free, if proven. This way no innocent person is put to death. That's much more a punishment than ****** their lives.
I have been a victim of crime. It's practically ruined my life. I would feel better knowing he was behind bars and miserable. He was never arrested.

If it's 100% proven, that person has no place on this planet.

The list could go on, but why bother? All of these people are a waste of time and usurpers of air the rest of us need to live productive lives. Kill them all....

I think the death penalty is a deterrent. However, I am not SO pro-death penalty that I wouldn't trade it for something I really wanted. If they said, OK, no more death penalty in exchange for a super-duper people resistent border barrier with guards, I'd trade in a heart beat!

I am for the death penalty in certain circumstances?
YES, all those circumstances as allowed by the due process of law.

To the poster, I studied Buddhism for many years in the Kadampa Tradition in the school of Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.

Buddhism is not a religion it is a philosophy and for many way of life regardless of religious affiliation. Buddhism is about recognizing and strengthening the different minds through meditation the goal of enlightenment is attained through control of the mind and not allowing the different minds to control one, then does one become awakened and enlightened, only Buddhas are enlightened or awakened beings. Many Buddhists believe Christ was an enlightened or awakened being therefor a Buddha. There have been many Buddhas.

Most people will experience a sense of heightened awareness as a result of better control of one's mind through meditation. Contrary to what others believe many Buddhists will defend themselves and participate in Marshal Arts. When one has to, one will kill to save another for example.

what due process did the victims receive during the defendant's trials?

what due process did the victims receive during the defendant's trials?
Exactly, none. These people torture and execute violent and heinous acts against unsuspecting, innocent victims with no remorse until they get caught, then they are the victims? Fk no.

I love the way these pro-abortion anti-capital punishment misquote and use philosophies and religion for their convenience.

I don't know who some of these people in here are, their background etc. but only an idiot can think life is like skipping through a field of lilies, be nice to the bad guys and they'll smile back, hashtag terrorists and they'll stop suicide bombing, those lilies will turn to land mine real quick. But it's okay to kill an unborn *****, ***?

It should be 1 year or two in jail then the penalty, only if the crime is worthy of it though, and why I say a year or two is so that if he is innocent they can maybe find out and the guy can live instead of die.

The litmus test for a question like this is very simple....."Did the perpetrator care about the victim that he was killing"?

Good for you! I know it has been said that not having legal abortion does not give women the rights they should have to be able to be responsible for their own bodies. With all the birth control methods out there for both men and women, that's where control over your own body should begin. Men should wear protection and, at the same time, women should be using some form of birth control. It's not rocket surgery - LOL.
