To toll or not to toll, that is the question. At least here in Connecticut where one legislator is ****** off big time that out-of-state people have the nerve to travel through Connecticut "ruining our roads." Yep, he actually said that. Not that we Connecticut residents have a part in ruining our own roads, but if you people who live out-of-state wanna ruin our roads too, hey, ya gonna have to pay to have that privilege by paying a toll. Fair is fair ya know. More on today's MisfitWisdom blog at http://misfit120.wordpress.com

I use the toll going through Oklahoma built in 1957. Toll booths are still up. They never come down because maintenence is paid by the toll. It is not expensive and I don't mind.

How silly!! So keep paying and paying to let officials earn 6 figure salaries for sitting on their ***'s while YOU pay their salaries??

Well...here in Jersey there have been tolls since I was a kid. I got my license with the knowledge that If I decided to travel on the Garden State Parkway or the New Jersey Turnpike I would have to have money with me to pay the tolls as traffic tickets and fine are issued if you do not pay the toll. so this is no big dear to me. We usually have really good roads here in the Garden State (even though right now the state fund is supposedly broke). I just accept it as part of the deal where I live.

The difference here in Ct. Kelly is that we also had tolls on our state highways for many years. The a tragic accident occurred at one of our toll booths involving fatalities. Soooo, the state rally cry was to abandon those tolls in the name of safety, and they were taken down. Bring on the casinos and where's the money to maintain those roads now? Well, they spent it on other stuff and now want to charge people like you to come into our state once again.

Against. We already paid taxes that were supposed to pay for the country's infrastructure. Why are we being double billed?

Cause they spend and spend and keep looking for more money to spend.

Against. They already get federal money to maintain the roads. When is enough enough people??? We have to fight back!!

Doesn't work...it's unfair to outsiders who bring in tourism dollars and to residents who live in this state.

They charge way too much already.

Here's a thought ..
those Fuel Taxes we all pay into the Fed (yes, the FEDERAL FUEL taxes)
are paid by EVERY ONE Who uses motor vehicles across the USA ...
and yes, those FUNDS taken from the taxpayers is REDISTRIBUTED (Gasp) to states such as CT to waste (and yes, CT has wasted Highway Trust (TAX) Funds too)

it is absolutely LUDICROUS that the Ct legislator has the Audacity to utter this LIE ..
as an EXCUSE to promote YET ANOTHER TAX ..

(all this one did was PROVE There is NO TAX THAT A POLITICIAN DOESN'T LIKE)

I am in favor of the toll if is reasonable and you don't have to stop and pay another toll every half hour as we did in Florida. Then when we had to pay another toll to get off at Orlando.

As far as I'm concerned no toll is reasonable if you are begging for tourists to visit our state and then want to charge them to get here. I will remind you that Ct. once did have tolls and we did just fine after eliminating them and the casinos helped out with revenue as well, but legislators continue to spend tax dollars and now are looking for more.

YEAH! Let's not use those stinkin' roads. That'll show them ********.

You and me both....and don't forget....I said we here in Ct. have two casinos which was supposed to help maintain those roads with the revenue the state gets.

maybe if they would quite taking 4 years and spending $25M on new rest areas (Texas we are talking about here)- there would be no need to toll the highways.

This is also a situation where each proposed toll route must be considered- In places like Texas- where the population is exploding- there are several new toll roads going up- because road revenue is not keeping up with the growth- I have no issue- PROVIDED- the toll booths come down as soon as the road is paid for.

The worst thing about the toll roads is TX is- some are pay by mail, some are cash, some use TX Tag, Some use EZ Pass, Some use The Orange dot with a T, and some use a different tag- and NONE of the roads will accept all the tags

last time I crossed 95 in CT it WAS a toll road- and it was the worst stretch of highway from Boston to Richmond.

So if they did not use the money to fix the roads in the past, what makes you think they will now?

I don't think a small toll is unreasonable as long as there is a contract that says the toll is specific to the road you are on and there is a specific amount to be paid and once that amount is paid, the toll booths come down...

Against because we have already paid Road Tax in advance so to pay for a second time is grossly unfair imho.

We already pay for them. Like our govt double taxation.

I would rather drive on a toll road that's well-maintained.

That depends. I would rather drive on a toll road that's well maintained, than a free road that's in bad repair. But if all things are even, i'll take the free road....

Are you kidding? In Illinois, we hate them here. They take a huge chunk out of your wallet if you have to use them. And toll booths waste time and gas. That is why may people opt to use Ipass where you just drive under a sensor without stopping and the money is automatically deducted from an account you have set up with the state.

I think that is about the most stupid thing there is.

Against! One of the few things our government can do for it's people is provide an infrastructure and that includes highways that I pay a plethora of taxes for that they squander elsewhere.

Against except through private property. We pay enough taxes so roads should all be open and toll free. (dreamer, huh?)

Against it, just another form of taxation by the political sludge to separate us and our wallets of our **** earned money. We need accountability from those that we elect. Gas and other local taxes were supposed to be use for road maintenance. Where the heck does that money go and what do repairs cost per mile.

Totally against and I avoid toll roads. I pay highway use taxes annually and at the pump every time I fill up, I'll be ****** if I'll pay to use the road.

The government needs tolls because they lose or squander the highway taxes that are already collected.
I am against any new money for anything until they account for what's already spent/lost and fire everyone involved in the misappropriation.

I have an occasion once in a while to travel I 64 through the West Virginia mountains. That is one toll I don't mind paying.
