I put it off as long as possible but yesterday my doctor told me I could no longer live alone, I hope they have wifi.

Do you have family in ******** living , are they happy, how are the conditions?

Here's my thoughts as an ELDER ..

1. NEVER fall for the sales pitches .. (The spamming) .. it is usually a CON JOB and definitely the wrong thing to do ..

2. Take your time and really read through everyTHING .. and I DO MEAN Everything.

3. KNOW The following ...
your budget, what your insurance covers (if you have ******** living/long term care insurance) .. what is included in the price the facility is quoting you at this time .. get a good look at an average apartment (not their model .. not their 'show' .. go to talk to someone already there and see what they say about the facility itself .. ) -- also KNOW The LIMITS of your insurance coverage too .. (hint .. most long term care policies DO have distinct numbers of days .. once that is reached .. then it is 100% at your cost .. which can be quite horrible on your budget .. (unaffordable)

4. Have you thought .. or is it even possible for a friend or relative (preferably family) to live with you and help you with your needs at this time (while remaining in your own home?)

5. IS there some adaptation that can be done to your home to comfortably allow you to stay there (At a reasonable cost) and have services come on a regular basis (instead of moving to an ******** living facility at this time?)

6. IS the faci...

6. IS the facility certified and licensed? What about the caregivers/staffing?
(and how did they get rated on their last inspection?)

7. IS there extra costs for such as ..
WI FI Service, Food Services, Power, TV service, recreation, laundry, cleaning services, .. etc? (GET ALL THOSE PRICES UP FRONT To see how they fit with your budget too .. )

8. How close is this facility to where your family/friends are at this time?
(and can they come to visit .. when .. are there any times off limits .. what are the policies for Visitors on the site itself... etc.

9. What else is offered at the facility itself (is your unit being looked at containing a kitchen, for instance? what about parking space? storage space? do you need to bring your own furniture or is it furnished there instead?) .. also note any thing that requires coordination of schedules -- some will take the residents to particular medical providers (on their APPROVED LIST .. and if you happen to have a provider outside of that list .. then transportation is at your expense .. and your provider may not be able to see you at that facility!

There's far more considerations to mull over ..
if there's any questions .. (since I've used services while recovering from my surgeries and Military Injuries too) ...
feel free to message on this site ...

but in all cases .. it is a MATTER of BUYER BEWARE ..
and yes, that means being savvy about any 'sales pitch' .. (especially if it is specifically promoting one facility .. suspicious indeed) ...
and just take your time going through the decision process .. so that your ****-earned income is preserved and you can live comfortably there too ..

I am a caregiver CNA to be exact. I have been taken care of the elderly since I was 16 years old. Now I take care of them in my home they live with me. Very much like an ********* living home. Except they are like my family. These to me are the best type of homes you can get for your loved ones. They are called ***** Foster Care Homes. I am licensed for four people unlike the bigger places which give me an advantage of getting to know the person and all their illnesses. But you have to do your homework; one question I would ask is how long on average does the residents of the home stay there. If they say about 2 to 3 years look elsewhere. Find out if the doctor or NP comes to the home which is good if you have a loved one that can't go out much. And always ask to see a menu.

my mother had a stroke and we had to find an ******** living home for her she was still all there in her mind... she just couldnt use her left side... one place i thought was really nice... she hated it... she went thru several and was unhappy with all of them... she just wanted to go home... but dad was a hoarder and the house was awful... the last one she was in before she died ... i seriously still have issues with... a few days before she died.. a caretaker told me that she saw a ghost coming out of moms room... ( i am not making this up) I figured the woman was a ding bat i dont know what country she was from... but she wasnt raised here... a day or so later mom was admitted to the hospital when they sent her back to the care center...I called and asked how she was the next morning and wanted to talk to her and was told she was still sleeping.... about a hour later i got a call that she was back in the hospital... that she had another stroke she never recovered ... i cant help but wonder if that ding bat caretaker did something to my mother

Watch out for Spam. Most spammers usually target elders, I heard (but also can effect other age groups as well). Also watch out for online spammers (can effect anyone).

watch out for spam

My grandfather was in some care homes, in Canada, one was okay, one was bad, and the last one was the best of them (still not the greatest, because the care home was out of the city, where I am from). I am not stating which city I am from due to safety reasons.

This must be pretty rough news to take in. My mom is in an ******** living home. She has made a couple really good friends there who are very close to her heart. That really has helped her adjust to the change. I also know there is a gentleman there who has been interested in my mother. So that's been keeping her chipper.

I think there are a lot of people out there who have had positive experiences with ******** living. There is generally a happy feeling to the care centers, and staff members should be trained and more than willing to help. I think if you face it with a positive attitude, then your experience will be better than if you're negative about it.

My grandmother lived in an ******** living.. she had her own apartment and lots of friends... the only difference then living alone was someone was always there to help if she needed it.. they came every morning to check on her they checked on her every night and she had an alert system if the started to feel ill or felt she needed help.

You need to check out the place.. talk to the people living there as to if they like it and the staff... most important check the local BBB and see if there have been any complaints against the facility or any staff members.. trust your gut... if you walk in and something just doesn't feel right or the place has an odor ... run...

You might just find yourself with a lot more freedom (and hopefully, wifi!) as the troublesome things won't be troubling you anymore. It could turn out to be a really positive thing, though I can imagine how difficult it must be to face such a change.

I'm the '******** living' part of my folks' lives. It seems like an entire sphere of activity just gets walled off every so often, as new problems arise. It's no strain at all to me, but the challenge is to find something to replace these things so their time remains valuable and structured.

The internet could be a real blessing for you. You have everything worth talking about at your fingertips and the whole world to discuss it with. This is something previous generations never had.

I guess the key, as anytime in Life, is to stay in the present and surround yourself with all the things that interest you. Let us know how it's going when you get settled.

Thank You, I'm trying to think positive, privacy I think might be my main concern. You are right about the internet, it will help I'm sure, I can speak to my family and friends that are scattered across the country and even some in other countries. If they don't have wifi I can't think of any reason why they wouldn't allow me to bring my own connection . I will let you know how it works out for me.
