After being in school for 7 hours or so, is it really necessary to be given homework in almost every class almost every day? Is this good for kids? Does it take away from extra-curricular activities and family life? Not to mention time for play, rest, exercise or daydreaming.

Some schools give summer homework ***********. Nowadays, even some preschools give homework. Is this going to have a negative effect on kids or is it good for them in the long run?

My son, who is five years old and in Kindergarten, has homework each and every night. Yes, I hear the stories how we are falling behind other countries, but I think it really has gone too far. When do kids get to be kids?

Yeah - but it's like quiet time for me. :) Selfish I know. But seriously - when I think of the homework I had, my daughter's doesn't even come close. Still, until about third grade you really shouldn't have any - or any you would be graded on.

A little less homework wouldn't hurt., especially for high school students, since many of them may have part-time jobs.

Earlier learning needs to be more hands-on and engaging.

In Australia, in my school at least, we are meant to do at least 2 1/2 hours of homework a day but if it is coming to exams then it is alot more. It's not unusual for people to have got 3 or 4 hours of sleep a night for weeks at a time because they have either studied till late or got up extra early in the morning to study.
I know alot of people have sometimes not slept at all but thank *** that hasn't come to me. Alot of people don't get out of school till 8:30 at night some times for different classes so it's pretty ****.
Our school is groomed for success but unfortunately I'm just average :D. No triple A+'s for me!

Kids in the U.S. have it so easy it's down right pathetic. I say double the homework. It's homework. Learning. We're not asking them to do something that won't help them in the long run. We're investing in our kids future by stimulating their minds and gladdening their spirit.

Oh wait, it's the U.S., I keep forgetting.

I had a conversation with a guy that is in he's 80's he said that in his day they never got homework because the teacher taught, when you left the class room you knew the information.

I'm not a kid, nor am I American. I believe in Canadian public schools (elementary to high school), they've reduced the amount of homework a ***** is allowed to be given a night. Personally, I never found that I had too much homework in high school.

But that's up here, I have no clue how much homework you kids get down there.

Do you think that people are going to change their votes because you go around on random topics saying, "vote republican" (in all caps, no less)? Seriously? Do you *really* think that will work?

I think you should have more responsibility as you get older, and homework in high school will hopefully prepare you for the workload you get dropped with in college. But preschool? Come ooon people.

I think it is madness! Kids go to school for about 8 hours a day, then some have extracurriculars. Then they go home and have chores and all of that. Where is the family time? Like the three hours they have before bedtime? It is crazy haha.

They are given too much here in my area, I believe. About 3 hours a day average between all the classes. But my kids took the ****** electives.

I think the whole educational system is so screwed up they are trying to make up for it in the kid's off hours. Problem with that is some kids won't even try and others give up from either other outside activities or frustration.
