Interesting... all but Michigan are considered "red" states.

Even more interesting is that 15 out of the 20 who fall below the national average are also red states....

NO ! - Your Mission As A Liberal Elitist Was To Paint Those States As 3rd. World Countries ( using insulting pictures ) . Remove those and I would be happy .
Facts are Facts ( government stats ) ........... but those photos were ' designed ' to insult !

Interestingly, all of these states contiguously border each other.

Flint was GM, that was once ALL it was. With most of the factories gone, it was pretty desolate, but it is slowly turning around. We have several colleges, including a U of M campus which now has housing downtown, buildings have been revamped and business is moving back into downtown with some really nice loft apartments above, and we have a farmer's market and cultural center that, while not large, is quite neat. Point is, it takes people not giving up. Criticism that is constructive is necessary and good...simply trash talking is patently destructive.

You're Right ! - Me too . I basically ' grew up ' in the Dayton , OH area and the decline has been bad there too . Once a " G.M. Town " and home of N.C.R. , it has been shut down and the economy has tanked . It is now known as Little Detroit !

I have not lived in the town for many years but to see a vibrant city turn to a drug infested shooting gallery was to much for me . Once Again , it's not ALL that way but crime and drugs moved like a cancer out of West Dayton into surrounding areas into what was peaceful ,quiet areas . The Fall Of " G.M. " and a dozen plant closings + NCR's World Headquarters pulled the rug from under Dayton .

I understand. I grew up in a rural area, but moved to Flint when I married. By then the decline was bad, and more factories have been torn down since I moved here than exist today. One of the first things I noticed after moving here, was the locals who badmouthed even good things in the area. For example, Autoworld was a sort of museum for the industry. It had everything from antiques and history to the latest concept car. I had visited twice before moving here and thoroughly enjoyed it. Not a single person I met here had a good word to speak about it. But when I asked, it turned put not a single one had ever been there. With no local support, it eventually closed its doors and was torn down. There are bad areas here, but there are a lot of good things happening too. I am far more offended when people here dis our city or state than when outsiders do so.

I Agree With You 100% , but this authors attempt was to ' Slander ' states other than his own . I Agree that EVERY state has slums somewhere . The last time I spent any time in Detroit was in the Early 80's and it was a SCARY place then , very dangerous . It is probably 10 Times That today . Flint & Pontiac ? Both suffered because of the auto industry and Liberal Governments . Michigan As A Whole Is BEAUTIFUL !
When these clowns slander your state like they do , it is an Insult to EVERY person in their state .

I didn't say you should be bothered , I'm not really ' bothered ' either .
My post was a " Public Shaming " of an arrogant **** !

I would imagine that every state has some very beautiful areas and some very ugly areas, with most falling somewhere in between. I live in Michigan, while the larger portion of the state is rural, we have some very bad areas in the inner cities. I am familiar with some of the worst in Flint, Pontiac and Detroit...and they are indeed ugly. I frequently see pictures of devastated Detroit neighborhoods posted on here. I know that is a very small portion of an extraordinarily beautiful state...I don't let it bother me.
