A wedding lasts a few hours at best. To waste several thousand dollars on it is the worst financial decision you can ever make.

It is a totally personal decision.

No one said it wasn't. A wedding lasts a few hours at best. To waste several thousand dollars on it is the worst financial decision you can ever make.

Depending on the business the couple is in ,they could make up that money and actually profit from new contacts.

That is ****** the spirit of what a wedding is supposed to be about.

If the bride and groom want it ,it is precisely "the spirit of what a wedding is supposed to be about".

The man who humbled a woman paid the father fifty shekels of silver. That was all. They were legally married.

yes YES yes. . terrible waste of money all on one day . i would rather have a nice honeymoon soMewhere, it is also very dated, i mean white dress? ?really . how many virgin brides are there these days?
it is all for show . and the real meaning of the wedding gets lost with invites. flowers, guest lists and venues and all that kind of garbage

Only if you're not filthy rich.

A tremendous waste of money that unfortunately has nothing whatever to do with the quality and success of the marriage. I would love to see a study correlating the amount of money spent on the wedding with the speed of the trip to divorce court.

Unless the couple are only married for a short period of time.

Yes. My father wanted to give me a very elaborate wedding and never once had I considered it. All the money and planning that goes into the perfect day that is gone some hours later, no way and I would never have wanted that debt on my father.

I personally think so. Destination weddings are especially expensive. If it's a small family affair, ok. But expecting guests to pony up for air/hotel and gift is way beyond realistic expectations.

There is no rule on how much you should spend on wedding. If some people have enough money to spend little fortune on it, their problem really and that don't have to do anything with any of us.

Yes, I had the option when I was married to have a huge wedding, but we decided on a small wedding and spent the money inviting her parents and mine to Barbados and got married there.

I wouldn't have one, wouldn't go to one, but it's their money, they can waste it if they want to.

Since most of them *** in divorce, don't waste that kind of money, give it to a good cause. "SEND IT TO ME."

Weddings are a waste, period, as far as I am concerned.

Yes. A year later you won't remember half the people who were their. A nice wedding is one thing, but going overboard is silly. If I have my way I would fly somewhere nice for vacation, get married there, return home and be done with it. I don't need any more toasters.

Wrong flag. Big weddings are a waste of money. It is supposed to be a celebration of the union of two people. Not a commercialized party.

I would rather invest the money in our honeymoon, our home, savings for the future. I had a great wedding. It was outdoors on May 5th, mid afternoon, with a flutist and harpist, about 80 people. There was a fish pond, a gazebo, and incredible gardens. It was rather casual, really. It was inexpensive and wonderful. I wouldn't have done anything differently. We honeymooned for 2 weeks in Hawaii. Great memories!

It is a free society and if they can afford to have a big wedding more power to them. Not really anyone's business unless they are paying for it.

For what most people pay for weddings these days they could put a hefty down payment on a home. It is an irresponsible waste of money.

The idea that the more money you spend on someone the more you love them is ludicrous (unless it's something like healthcare I suppose.)

Spending $300 for a cast ice sculpture (aka, water poured into a mold) doesn't show you that your spouse loves you, it illustrates they're bad with money. I get the dowry origin, but I think marriage should be about love, rather than a "check measuring contest".

A total waste of money, it proves nothing.

Very good for business and the economy though.

I threw a wedding for my son. Maybe took two afternoons of shopping to pick up some stuff that I didn't already have and used the rest of the decorations out of my house (it was a beach themed wedding and I have plenty of beach theme decorations) with a little creativity and work the whole thing from ring to honeymoon was around $2000.00 with the bride taking care of her own dress and bouquet since she wanted real flowers and I did silk flowers for everything else. The brides uncle attended and said he'd just been to a $300,000.00 wedding that wasn't as nice as mine.
I did a wedding for my friends daughter almost a year ago. This time I did a country/western/shabby chic theme and spent under $200.00 on the decorations for the venue and it was a huge building. I just got a list of items I wanted the brides mother to find for me through borrowing from around the town and again a little work and creativity and it was a spectacular wedding. They last for just a few hours for one day, it's ridiculous to spend a lot of money for that few of hours.

My sister's friend spent $30,000 on her wedding 3 years ago. She just filed for divorce at the start of 2015.
