Alcohol or drug addiction: do you have a family member or close friend sadly suffering from alcohol or substance abuse?

I have nephew dangerously addicted to meth. I saw him today and could barely believe it was him. Very tragic! How about you?

Alcohol killed one of my cousins, now his brother is on the same path with alcohol and drugs, and meth killed a friend. So sad, she had it all and threw it all away.

I believe that this affects everyone. It's just a question of "how closely related is your favorite drunk or dopehead?"

In my case, it's a son and a step son. The step son's early life involved a father who gave him marijuana to keep him quiet. The son seems to have been heavily influenced by his older step brother. Both have a native American heritage, and it has always seemed that Indian ancestry makes people more prone to addictions.

Yes alcoholism and domestic violence are very much a problem in the American Indian population. It seems to have a cultural component as well as addiction issues. Hope your boys are able to overcome their issues before it gets to their health.

I know quite a few people who drink and smoke pot. I also know a few people who have gone over the edge and became addicted to other things. I don't believe in the gateway theory because I know people who smoke pot once in awhile and don't use anything else. I also know a few people who went over the edge with drug addiction and died. I don't think there's anything wrong with having a drink or even a toke once in a while as long as people understand their limits. I believe in legalization of pot because it has medicinal value and isn't as addictive as some other substances. There is a difference between use and abuse. I think that prohibitionists who are addicted to banning everything and going on witch hunts are more dangerous than people who smoke pot or drink once in awhile because they also want to ban life saving drugs. It's almost like they're playing *** and deciding who should live and who should die.

Ty and welcome. I hope things don't *** that way with your nephew. Meth is extremely addictive and it's not easy to quit, but it can be done. I had a friend who did pretty much everything starting as a teen. After many years of heroin addiction, he got clean. Unfortunately for him, the damage had been done and he died of a heart attack at 32.

I have been through rehab. ****** hot on a drug screen and to keep a job that is what I had to do. At some point one must choose between the dope and the job.

Even though I've been clean and sober for many years, I'm a Drug Addict. I had to loose everything, including myself respect before I decided to clean up my act. My mother died an alcoholic and one of my brothers isn't to far behind.
Yes, this is very Tragic. The only way he's gonna clean up his act, is when he is ready.
