Forgot to say, yes you'll find racist here and anyplace you go, but it's not as bad as you make it! And if you'd quit feeling that way and calling everyone a racist you just might find that people will treat you with more respect~

Why would foreigners be a distraction? You didn't find that offensive??? I have witnessed racism for a long time, and those of us who know it when we hear it and see it, have learned to tune it out. Unless you find yourself in a situation where matters have to be resolved in a courtroom of law. Never in a million years would you see racism or find it as offensive as a person of color, or a foreigner. You have never walked in their shoes, and believe me yes in this year of 2014 racism is terrible, don't you watch the news? Perhaps you've found justification in some of the things going on in our world. Respect, I do get my share, not to mention an overwhelming amount of love, in my personal life as well as on **.

In 1960 before segregation I lived in Mississippi for year and seen it first hand. Being from WA state I never seen any blacks treated the way they were in that part of the county. Blacks had to stand back in town when whites went into the stores and then they could go in. I held the door for the blacks to go in, they were very hesitant but some would go in. I'd get nasty glances from the whites....how dare one of their own do that. My hubby was afraid I was going to get us shot down there, but I made it out in tack and went back and told people I knew how they were down there, they agreed that was bad. Where did I say foreigners a distraction? You are reading into it what you want, not what I said or the point I was trying to make.

Read the post, I don't need a brush up course of the 60's, been there and done that, I am 76 years old. My point is, why does being offensive always rear it's ugly face. Some things are best left unsaid.

Explain what you are referring "Being Offensive" too? I never said that to you, or do you mean my being offensive about the race card? If it was the race card it is getting a lot more use than warranted!

The wefare state started by FDR ruined it for the **** working person.
WW2 would have happened and we would have won no matter what.
We did not need the socialist programs of the other countries.

Are you referring to welfare??? If so, how did it ruin it for **** working people? Obviously there was a need then, just as it is now that social programs are in existence to aid those in need. No person on welfare has ever hindered the effects of my working ****, I just do me and I don't worry about what other people are doing with their lives that have no barring on me. People have to do what they have to do to survive, and we all do not have the same options to meet with sccess. Especially during the era of WW2, equality was not for everyone, especially people of color, thank *** for FDR.

I agree with the point that you make, the very steps that are in front of the White House were constructed and laid by slaves. One of these days people will have enough love for people, that their diversity will mean nothing, and meaningless comments won't even be uttered.

Your question could easily be taken as racist. One of the greatest things about our country is that we've always been known as the great melting pot, much diversity. That's a compliment to how our country is conducted, and how others value our country. If you make a comment about too many foreigners being here, tell us how you really feel, what about Blacks, Mexican, Asians and others???? You do realize that many of us was born right here in the good old U.S. of A, don't you??

I look forward to that day sister. Friends don't see friends in colour..... In fact, inter-racial marriages create the most beautiful babies... I just don't understand the fear behind racism.

Not as long as you are telling people they are. By the way how many generations ago did slaves do those steps? A lot has improved in this country since then and now there would be laborers right along with the slaves! We can't fix what our FORE FATHER's did any more than you can, but it's time to give it up and start working together!!

that was Max's point. getting beyond this perception of foreigners and behaving more like an us.

So did all of South America.......your point? In fact the whole world was except the middle east where it all started!!

so did all of South America what? get developed by immigrants? thats the point. we are all immigrants at some point except for indigenous native communities..... that is the point. To stop differentiating and paying attention to colour and place of origin and to start looking at how to work together for the betterment of all... that is the point. Where it began is irrelevant... where we are now is a long way from there... but for some reason, some people still struggle with that.... and it is fear based ignorance. that is the point.

"America, like Canada, was built by foreigners." So was South America! And what your saying is exactly what I've been trying to say!

Dont know if the whole foreigners thing is true, but many western countries attract a lot of foreigners. As for America being the best country in the world, I disagree. It's a beautiful country but not the best.

All depends on what you're judging it on! Best at what?

Well someone had to toss in the racist card. Read my comment above, people come to this country because they like what it offers over theirs, they need to remember why they came here and stop trying to change us to their ways. They wanted to come here not visa versa!

This is one of those polls that is just asking to get criticized in so many ways....mainly because the ***** indicates that America is the best country in the world...the definition of foreigner is slowly being rewritten to a point in the future where it will just be one big global society, traveling to different countries so often it becomes easier to interact others we won't know who the foreigners are, and who was born naturally in that country,

The problem is not too many foreigners, the problem is those that come here with the belief that they can change our country into the one they left. We have our own laws, we are not going to adapt theirs. People also come here looking for handouts while we have homeless Vets and families that aren't taken care of. These people take resources away from American citizens.

It would be fine if they would come here and work and not to sponge and realize they come here because they liked how the US was and stop trying to make us change our ways to how they had it where they left! Become Americans too and leave the reason they left their country and adapt to our ways and laws!!

The key words being "too many" foreigners. Our country was built on the backs of foreigners and would not be America without them but....America accepts more immigrants each year then any other country on earth and I believe we should have the right to decide who gets in and who doesn't. We remain the greatest country on the planet and do not need to be over run by illegals.

Wow. Thanks for calling me an idiot because you disagree with me. Very mature. You wanna tell me why you apparently think America is the best, then? I'm not even sure where the shallow thing comes from.

The minute you start thinking you're the best is the minute progress halts. We're definitely far from the best, though our country is very prideful.

Name another country who does as much good as America does?

Well, the best in what respects? Education? Health of their citizens? Average life span of its citizens? Gross domestic product? Equality?

I asked you to name another country who does as much good as America. Seems like a pretty straight forward question to me.

And I asked you to specify because that question could go a lot of different ways.

Having a **** time answering a very simple question? I'm still waiting for an answer....Name another county who has doe as much good as America? Let me help you out here...you are supposed to write down a name of a country who you think has done more or as much good in the world as America like "Canada" or "Australia" or "Sweden". So, your answer is?

In respects of education, I think Germany is doing a lot more good. Higher education there is free to both residents and people coming into the country.
Cuba has sent more medical aid to Africa to help with the ebola crisis than America.
Many other first world countries have healthcare that is much much more affordable. People don't become homeless because they can't afford their medication.
My point is that there's a lot more to your question to the point that a simple answer will not work. All countries have their good and bad. I'm not saying the U.S. does no good, I'm saying that they are not the best and it is arrogant to think otherwise.
