These days we all seem to be counting our calories, but it’s sometimes **** to visualize exactly how many calories we are consuming. Not anymore!

This cool visual list of 37 various foods compares what 200 calories actually look like in different foods. You’d think that even with Summer coming up, a handful of gummy bears couldn’t hurt much. Well, as it turns out just 1.8 ounces (51 grams) of those delicious little guys gives you the same amount of calories as nearly 21 ounces (600 grams) of broccoli or 3 whole eggs would.

Check out the pictures below:

At least the list wasn't COMPLETELY stereotypical. Anyway, then you'd have to actually eat that crap. Know how I like my raw broccoli? Dripping with ranch dressing. 1430 calories... It's fuel, people. You just need to figure out how much fuel your body requires and the amount of energy you burn for different activities. Not the same for everyone.

Indeed ... thanks for sharing this ...
(I'm not into sweets for the most part .. and do enjoy fresh veggies )
I happen to make my own veggie dip (that is far healthier overall .. fresh ingredients in the dip too)

I was surprised about the calories in the bacon because it looked like a nice sized portion. Guess it's the fat that does you in for that one :) . . . I need to eat more celery!

Thanks for this post. It's very interesting. Some of these things are good to know for a man like me who has to be careful about weight gain. But now I'm kinda hungry. Excuse me while I get 5 apple slices, one Werther candie, ten baby carrots, 12 packets of Splenda, one stalk of Broccoli, four stalks of celery, four grapes, six mini peppers, one third slice of melon, a fourth of a wiener, one slice of Turkey and an egg. I'll wash it all down with a hot cup of Folgers coffee sweetened with two of the packets of sweetener and a tsp of milk.
'Burp'...That was good. Now I'll have a screwdriver to reward myself for gagging down those 2oo ( + or _ ) calories. (A screwdriver is Vodka and orange juice-about 183 calories) Yummy!... :)

That is what I do and limit my carb input. I have a spread sheet that has my glucose levels and what I have eaten and total carbs. This way I keep track and don't go over my 13 carbs per day.

I'll take the two beers. ;)

What you should be concerned with the carb count. They raise the blood surger. Veggies are always good. Fruit causes the blood surger to spike.

Now I'm hungry. Can't remember the last time I had only 200 calories of anything.

I'm a very conscientious eater most of the time I opt for healthy low calorie foods. That allows for the occasional deserts and a fried item or too. It's all about balance.

Calories are not as important as what they are from i.e. fat.
What's more important to look for is low fat content and low carbs. 200 calories of fat are not the same as 200 calories from carbs.

The best advice is to stop counting calories and count carbs. I've lost 31 pounds since November by limiting my carbs.

Except for the fruit, and veggies, that is pretty dismal. :(

Sadly many rather "innocent" looking food elements can contain high amounts of calories, especially ready dishes.

This is only a small part of the many "surprises", on the other hand, also certain "caloric" elements are not that bad and even essential for a healthy diet, at the right doses ...

I try to keep things in balance. I am not much of a candy eater but I do like my 'turtles', those I can never pass up. The ketchup is what is surprising....why do I want to eat that much ketchup? Anyways, thanks for the tip.

Some of those look like they should be higher than 200. Ones like the bacon, fries, and coke, to name a few. Most of the fruits and veggies are fine.

Interesting. So that smoked turkey, avocado, purple onion, mayo sandwich on 12 grain toast was more than 200 calories but well balanced. I ran out of tomatoes.....:-(

I like looking at the comparisons but for me I judge my intake by Carbohydrate helpings.

As a diabetic I am more concerned with Carbs. Some of those veggies are free food and I don't have to worry about sugar levels. The milk turns to sugar within a half hour after drinking, same with donut, and even the apple has too much sugar so can only have a piece that fits in palm of hand. I would not even think about having the candy. and the ketchup has sugar as well. I can get away with the half hamburger, protein and about a carb and a half. Corn, peas, celery, broccoli, carrots are all good.
I have a carb book that I use, calories is not even the issue, it is quantity of carbs per day that I have to worry about.

Counting calories is a waste of time imo. I eat as much as I want and do not worry about calories.
