At 12 one knows the difference between right and wrong. If a youthful offender did something terrible to one of my loved ones, I would not be interested in the kind of ********* he or she had or their mental capacity, I would only be interested in their punishment.

Tough question. In most cases, I say 18 is the right age. But, when the offender is truly dangerous, it simply isn't enough to have him incarcerated for a few months, until he turns 18, then set him loose to victimize someone again.

This tells me our society is getting worse at an ever younger age...I believe ******** committing ***** crimes should be charged the same as an *****, right along with their parents.

It depends on the crime and the individual. If the crime is violent in nature like ****, *******, or murder, yes they should be charged as an *****.

If a 12 year old was given the same punishment as an *****, would that mean they'd have to share a prison cell with an ***** too and group shower with them etc?

I think 18 should remain the legal age. That is the age to vote, go in the Service, and other ***** life choices. I think the variable should be past the age of 16 if required.

if they are old enough to do the crime then they are old eough to do the time. people who had thier houses broken into, or have been robbed , o have had their prperty damaged or beaten up or any other crime that these kids do do not feel any less grief if the offender is a teenager or if they are 50. the impact on thier life is the same . we are way too soft witht hem when we should be coming down tough on them while they are young so they understand conseqences

For some things, I think 16 qualifies... otherwise, 18 is a good age.
