The new face of Marc Jacobs has long, flowing blond hair, high cheekbones and wide-set blue eyes, and is said to resemble a cross between Cindy Crawford and Kate Moss. Here's the twist: He's a dude.
Andrej Pejic, a 19-year-old Serbian, made his
modeling debut in Jean-Paul Gaultier’s Paris show, according to The Daily Beast. Since then, he has appeared in French Vogue, Italian Vogue and Turkish Vogue. And last week, he was unveiled as the face of Marc Jacobs’ spring 2011 campaign. He will also appear in Gaultier’s spring ads with the supermodel Karolina Kurkova, whom he also resembles.
While the world has certainly seen feminine-looking male models before, Pejic takes it to the next level.
"A lot of macho guys did think of me as a girl," he said of his high school years, according to The Daily Beast. "Though I can’t really say that it was ever a bad thing. All I'll say is…a lot of free drinks!"
Damon Baker, a British photographer, called Pejic "the most beautiful girl you’ve ever seen in your life." He started flirting with the model last summer, only to realize a few minutes later that he was a man.
While Pejic is certainly in demand, Arnaud V., his booker at the New Madison agency in Paris, tells the Beast that "some designers are a little scared to go for this image of very androgynous. Some people aren’t ready for him yet."
