A new survey from the Public Religion Research Institute (in partnership with Religion News Service) reveals that *way* too many Americans still think *** has a vested interest in their favorite sports team:

About 1-in-4 (26%) Americans and 27% of self-described sports fans say that *** plays a role in determining which team wins a sporting event.About 7-in-10 Americans (71%) and sports fans (69%) disagree.

Minority Protestants (45%) are more likely than any other religious group to believe that *** plays a role in determining which team wins a sporting event. More than 3-in-10 white evangelical Protestants (32%) and Catholics (31%) believe that *** plays a role in determining which team wins a game. Only about 1-in-5 (19%) white mainline Protestants and 9% of the religiously unaffiliated believe *** has a hand in the outcome of sporting events.

The survey also found that church is only slightly more popular than football on a given Sunday:

No.
Ignoring my atheism for a moment, there's nothing in the bible I read to suggest he takes an active role in just about anything lately. Definitely not sports,

Good grief! No wonder we still elect so many politicians who are in denial of science.

If *** gave man "Self-determination" why would they interfere with something so trivial as a sporting event?

Those who believe **** determine the outcome of mere sports game are highly delusional.

To think that any *** would be concerned about such inconsequential things and then be totally oblivious to the horrors of dying ******** in third world countries shows the simply minded idiocy of religionists.

*** wants us to live our lives for His glory, but He has no say how competitions between men go. I forgot who it was said that the **** in Texas Stadium was put there so '*** could watch His team play' So much presumption. I think it was Tex Schramm. Sounds like something he would say.

People believe a lot of silly things... *** isn't some bookie in the sky fixing sporting events... or elections... or anything else. If we pretend any ***(s) exist, one thing is unavoidable... they obviously don't give a crap about human events

Usually I have no clue what big deal sporting event is happening on any given Sunday untill my wife tells me otherwise.

Concerning the 25% "Doing Both" from that chart: I think that they are misguided in believeing that *** gives a royal hoot who wins 'sporting events'.

If I gave a royal hoot about the outcome of a given sporting event, I would pray that my *** guide the all participants and protect me from those who drink too much during next Sunday's 'sporting event'.

The wife says that some major event is a week from this Sunday and who am I to argue with her.

Even if there was a ***, why would he bother?? Seems to me, that would sort of negate the whole "free will" thing ******** are always using as an excuse for his/her inaction everywhere else.

Hmm, methinks we need some biblical scholars [sic] to weigh in here, and let us know which teams the sacred scrolls say *** likes. My guess is that it would be the same ones as the so-called scholar likes, but I may be wrong.

What your post shows is that 25% of this country is nuts.
*** determines nothing in the lives of man, and never has.

Sports are way to complicated for the Christian/Jedean/Islamic ***. All one has to do is read any of these bibles to figure this out.

If the sporting event influences other more important issues *** can and would affect the game in any way necessary. But, after all, games are just games.

Most people who push religious points on this site are extremely snti-Obama. My point was (sarcastically ) was that if *** controls everything then he picked Obama to be the president,.

Neither ******** nor hateful. I believe that if *** controls the outcome of sporting events than he surely puts his efforts into more important areas loke world leaders. My statement was no more ignorant that stating that *** controls contests. Secondly I hate no one. I believe everyone has the right to believe and worship anyone or anything. I very dearly believe in *** and do ny best to live a life that he approves of I don't cheat on my wife steal money from work,go out and get then drive drunk and then on sunday ask forgiveness. That is hypocrisy ! And why although I love and accept *** but have no time for organized religion

Your statement shows your fixation and hate of Obama which has absolutely no relevance to *** or organized sports. To bring your obsession into every post you make is ********. You need to grow the **** up and learn to put your political opinions where they belong, in the political section.

The idea of how believer conceptualize *** and how they think he provides for them in their daily lives is pure insanity. There is absolutely no logic or rational thought to any of it.

If you actually have read any of my posts you would see that I have always supported our current president. Our country is in a lot better shape now than it was when he took it over. You are arguing with me and yet we both have the same point of view. The Obama comment i made was purely sarcasm. ....I really don't understand how you did not see it.
