It's total bullshit if you ask me. ANY dog can be vicious. Some are born that way, but most of the time, it's obviously the owners fault. I'm really sick of this Beware of the Pit Bull nonsense. It's ridiculous. But of course, that's just my opinion. What about you?

people get the dog and train them to be vicious. Most breeds can be trained to be the same, it's just fashionable to do it to a pit bull.

Guess what? My Dog Duke is a brother to me. He was trained to hunt, chase, and kill.
Yet he protects the babies in my family as If they were his.
A dog will act however you train them, but you got to think with personality too.

All I know is that 90 percent of the pooches available for adoption at the local animal shelters are pit bulls and pit bull mixes that someone didnt want. That indicates to me there must be a problem with them.

Good Point. My son just adopted a pit bull and then left for college so I am dealing with one for the first time in my life. So far a real sweetheart, but I am skeptical.

Wonder why the breed is so popular? They are really good dogs!!!!

Sadly the very reason a dog is "good" is the reason they are demoted to bad. The mastiff breed was created for power and protection. Their love and loyalty make them a threat to anyone they don't know as family. This makes them very easy to train to be aggressive. Most dogs are doing what the owner wants. Aggression in the mastiff line must be down played by owners not escalated or you *** up with a "bad" dog that is simply trying to be good. It is sad when times change leaving what was once important but is now meaningless or even considered evil...like men that were protectors and warriors. They built and protected society but now society does not know what to do with them. And they do not know where they fit in anymore.

That is very strange. I have tried to find one to adopt a couple of times before and the shelters just never have them .They never even come close .

The shelters here are pretty empty now, but in the past most of the dogs available here have been Staffordshire Terrier or Bull Terrier mixes. Is that what you call a "pit bull"?

I have not been looking recently but I would think shelters would be filling up rather quickly right now .Right after the holidays is when they really get packed .

What are you calling a Staffordshire Terrier? I have seen what is known as a Shaffordshire Bull Terrier ,it's an English breed .They are preciouse and not many of them in the states .Not really likely to be in a shelter .

I work in the courts. I have seen several dog bite cases over the years. These are not routine bite cases, they are cases that resulted in criminal prosecutions. Every case I have seen involved a pit bull.

The vicious ones are mostly trained to be so or haven't been given the socializing attention that ALL dogs NEED!

Have never met a vicious one yet. That said, many are vicious due to the way treated by their owners. There is the rare instance where even a docile one could turn mean, but that is also true of any dog, big or little.

I've never met a pit who wasn't sweet as an angel. It's the owners you have to worry about. would you blame a ***** from an abusive household for turning out a little messed up?

They are territorial and you just can't mistreat them in any way.

I can't be blaming "the media", for reporting the fatal or serious injuries that are often inflicted by dogs. MANY of those incidences happen to be Pit Bulls. I do not agree with those say who say it always the fault of the owner. I would also say that Pit Bulls and other dogs are more abused by humans than the reverse.

When Pit Bulls and other large powerful dogs do 'snap' and attack other animals, including the human kind, they obviously have more power to inflict serious harm.

puppycock!

Dogs are for the most part, a reflection of their humans ability or incapability as their care-takers.

I think you will find in a lot of situations the dog is a reflection of its owner. the problem ith pits is that hey are really capable of doing some nasty damage if they get the idea into their heads,
