"Overweight" is a subjective term. There are quite a few scales for measuring the "average" or "perfect" weight a person should be and because of all the variables, like gender, height, body type, age, etc., there is a tolerance range that isn't always correctly labelled on your weight charts.

You must also take into account, the different body types, below is an example image showing three body types, an "*********" body type can look overweight when compared to a "ectomorph" body type of the same height and they can both be extremely healthy.

body type overweight compared ectomorph body type height extremely healthy

The height to weight chart is a joke. I'm supposed to be overweight but my %body fat is low and I can bench my weight + 100 pounds.

Muscle is heavier then fat and whoever set the guidelines had a serious problem with reality.

Yes, of course. Overweight doesn't mean your fat. Bodybuilders are overweight with muscle mass. Weight is not always the answer in determining if you are overweight and not healthy,

I would think the word overweight kind of negates the word healthy. Then again, I'm no doctor so I haven't got a clue.

No, excessive weight will have a negative effect on one's heath, it may be minor but there's no denying it.

The phrase overweight can be misleading. Muscle weighs more than fat, so a person of muscular build could easily be 'overweight'
The BMI and body fat indexes are more accurate

Sure, you can be overweight without having your doctor diagnose you with an official sickness. You might even feel pretty good other than having a gut that slows you down.

Still, an overweight person should make an effort to come down to a normal weight so they don't *** up being even bigger next year if nothing else (stay the same).

As a person gets older, being significantly overweight can lead to larger problems though.

You can be obese and healthy but it's only temporary. At that point it don't take very long to have high blood pressure and other problems.Been to the doctor obese before battling with my weight. But the **** meds that i was on made it seem impossible to loose weight. It took only a month, to experience high blood pressure and some other factors of an unhealthy person.

Overweight, yes; obese, no. It is possible to take good care of yourself and still be slightly overweight. Some people naturally tend to be on the heavy side, and I don't think that it really harms their health.

Yes but for some it don't last long.

While it's nautural to have a bit of extra padding every now and then, truly overweight people are malnourished. I don't see how that can be considered healthy.

Of course! Weight is not the primary benchmark for determining health. There are many other factors that must be considered. Such as: Cholesterol levels, blood sugar levels, blood pressure, genetics, and a long list of other factors...

You can't judge a book by it's cover...

I knew one such person in high school. She ran three miles a day and weighed a bit over 200 pounds at five-six.

Yeah but maybe not as healthy as they would be if they were thinner, but you can be bigger and be healthy

Fat is made in the body for something good. It is not a tumor, or something bad. But too much fat like anything can be bad. Just like being thin can be bad.

...yep, because there's overweight and there's OVERWEIGHT !...10 pounds overweight is still overweight, but ****** dangerous...90 pounds over weight is OVERWEIGHT...( I always heard that "..the more weight you carry, the less time you'll have to carry it..")

Overweight doesn't necessarily mean fat, muscle actually weighs more

Just as a person can be underweight and be healthy.

Technically no, a healthy weight for one person may make them look fat and looks is generally what people judge health on. The only person who can determine the healthy weight for you is a doctor but that doesn't mean being overweight or underweight is necessarily unhealthy

I think the term "over-weight" kind of suggests that.
