A deer flew outta of the woods and I hit it going 55mph...

As a result, I spent 6 hours in the hospital while my husband was being X-Rayed for cervical injuries. I have not a scratch, yet he now has 'Strained Muscles' and 2 cracked ribs.

I was wearing my seat-belt. He was not! Do YOU wear YOUR seat-belts???

Yes, way before it was required by law.....after a dear friend was thrown from her vehicle and run over by oncoming traffic. I'm glad he'll be OK and hope he learned something. Gotta watch for those Bambis this time of year, as temperatures fall and they are going into the rut. They are moving a lot more. I hope you have good insurance on your truck :-0

I've hit deer as well down at the farm and always had a seatbelt on. It's too bad some people won't wear one until after they have experienced what happens when you don't. Hope he is doing well.

Uhm, ok. You can stop yelling at me now. I've hit multiple deer in my life. You're not alone here, and you will get through this.

Just take a deep breath and relax.....

So... safe speed (50) Posted is 55 and a deer jumps the guard rail, Air bag worked and breaks were irrelevant because there was no time.

Even SAFE drivers have accidents. I have NEVER had an accident before and my driving record is meticulous. and to reiterate... The **** DEER IS DEAD!!!

I thought attentive driving, safe speeds, air bags, ABS all contributed to saving lives.

Silly me.

So, is Bambi really dead?

Yup, throw way your parachute, life jacket, bullet proof vest, helmet, etc. All you need is a seat belt.

I wear my seatbelt and don't let anyone ride in my vehicle or a vehicle that I drive without one. I have had several wrecks, one serious one, that I would have been seriously hurt or killed without a seatbelt. A long time ago, before seat belts, I was in the back seat of a car that hit a cow. I hit the back of the bench front seat. My son flew out of my hands over the seat. The girl in the front seat snatched him out of midair right before he hit the windshield. It would probably have killed him. He was a baby. The driver wasn't going very fast either.

My mom was very cautious as her brother died in the 70s in a car accident, because he did not wear a seat belt. I hope he was a good recovery.

Ouch, its lucky that you have a high profile vehicle, if it had been in a smaller car it may have came through the windshield and really hurt the both of you. If you're in a low profile car and you know that you can't avoid hitting the deer its actually safer to accelerate rather then brake as it raises the car a little while braking lowers it. At least that's what I read and it seems to make sense?

And yeah I always wear me seat-belt, force of habit I guess?

The Deer are running amok with no values, sense of decency, or responsibility. They need to go out, get jobs, and earn a buck.

200 Americans a year die from accidents which involve hitting a deer.
We have 30 million deer.

LOL! I can't even imagine those day (especially since I wasn't there), but I cringe when I see old movies and tv shows with kids sitting in their parents laps.

You ain't joking! He is 48 now and has cheated death several times. It's a wonder any of my kids are alive. I used to drive like a maniac, on bald tires, no seat belts, kids running all over the car, windows open. I had one daughter who liked to hang her head out the window like a dog!
