I could find a job if I wanted a job, but already paid my dues so will stay in retirement.

I am employed, and always get great reviews from my employers past and present.

I am in the same boat, so to speak. I totally understand.

Best of luck to you. :-)

And I've been working full time for the past 43 years. Someone has to support those who won't.

I have worked for about 30 years, since I was 16 years old (working during high school, after school). During these almost 30 years, I've been unemployed for 5 weeks (during transition from one job to another contract). Other than that, I have worked full time the whole time.
NOBODY can say "There ain't no jobs out there!" There ARE jobs everywhere in the USA.

I'm self employed, so I thankfully don't have to go through the whole job interview thing any more.

Since I have been out of the job market for quite some time, I feel like I am unemployable.
Perhaps I am not trying enough.

Sometimes you have to start lower than you want, but employers do want people without big gaps in their employment. I always found it easier to find jobs when I was working than when I had not been working.

I agree. Thanks Peewee.

I was just talking to someone about this the other day. I have been relentlessly trying to find employment, and have not had one interview, returned call, nothing. I had someone look over my resume and they suggested that I might be overqualified for the positions I am applying to. If this is the case I am screwed, because I am under-qualified for the jobs I want, and overqualified for the jobs available to me. I don't care if I'm overqualified, I just need a job!

The job market is terrible. And we are by no means too old.

I heard about the myth of job improvment.... thing is ... its not getting better... .... its just not being reported properly or accounted for ...When the people that are out of work stop getting unemployment or stop looking for jobs ... the government counts that as being back to work

I will soon be graduating with my bachelor's in business administration, but I fear it may all be for naught since I have no real job experience and poor social skills. I know it's going to be a struggle.

No one will hire me it seems. I'm 54, 28 years work in a medical research and development lab and can't even get a McJob.

I walk dogs but that isn't a living.

A lot of us are in the same boat. Yet, the news reports saw the economy is improving. I have not seen it improving.

Best of luck in your job search.
