I tend not to waste much time with eating when that is all I am doing. In USN boot camp we had 15 minutes to get 80 men in the door, through the line, sit down, eat, deposit tray, get out the door and back in formation. One learns to eat quickly and efficiently or starve.
Eating quickly like this does not involve being sloppy or "piggish" nor does it involve overeating. It involves efficiency.
When eating socially (with friends at a restaurant or banquet...) I can eat quickly to get through a course in process or slowly, taking bites between conversation while still maintaining manners. At a party type situation I can nibble throughout the time rather than sitting down to a meal.
I am able to adjust to the setting at hand, however the default is quick and efficient.
