Okis, now I'm gonna post a long, long comment. K, I agree with Lizbeth, but not Mikayla! Cain has a right to be mean, because of all the things he's gone through! Lizbeth, wonderful discription of the whole Maestro twist. I personally think Cain is a bit mean, but thats only a shield over his true feelings. He's gorgeous, yet feels guilty and worthless because of the death of Catherine. When Jessica let people read the old versions on the website, Winter-Verse and Modern-day-Ada-Version, I think the fangirls started cling to Ada's view because it was sort of like a twilight thing going on. Y'know, immortal guy, et cetera. They got mad when she said it would never publish. I personally didn't read that one, but I did read Winter-Verse and found it to be very heartbreaking and bittersweet. Although I do love the finished published Maestro Series, because that really shows Cain as a person. Especially when he adopts Sootamee. My point is, the stupid fangirls were mad at the author for taking off Ada's view and because she didn't want to publish it. She said it took away the original message and magic of the Maestro series. Those stupid ******* were actually harassing her all because of it! It's so stupid! If they because like the twilight-obsessed girls, the Maestro series WOULD loose the unique magic, and it would be just another mainstream-pop series! That's my opinion. O.O

Lol guys XD don't be mean to each other. it's true that they do keep comparing MS to twilight, but that's just because they're ignorant, and probably didn't even read the book in he first place. I personally find Cain very ****. There is a rumour that thre may be a movie in a few years, but jessika is uncertain. Ben Whishaw or Matthew Gray Butler should play Cain. what do you think?

Oooo =) isn't everyone getting excited that the Maestro series is populating? I love it! My aunt first gave me the book and I fell in love with it so much. It got me to start listening to Nightwish. I desperately wish Cain was real. I guess we just have to wait for the movie! Matthew Gray Gubler--he would be perfect. I agree with you all.

Is Matthew Gray Gubler really going to play Cain in the movie???!!! I was debating on Benjamin, after I saw 'Bright Star'. I was thinking "Wow! Cain Caldwell!" I haven't seen other of his movies. I don't think Ben could play such an aristocratic, "Gothic" role, but hey, thats just my opinion. He looks like Cain, though. I just have to see him in other movies to support my opinion. For me, if we died the Gube's hair black, gave him back his cane, he'd be the perfect Gothic Aristocrat! When he hurt his knee and had the cane I was like "soooo, so hot......it's really Cain...." I've seen him make some killer pain faces. thats just my opinion. I agree with some of you. If the Maestro series becomes a mainstream pop-series like Twilight it won't be the same. We;ve got our own little fan group here, and i think thats enough! I can't believe there are other fans than I :) A bunch of screaming fangirls screaming Cain's name at the top of their lungs would be totally against the views of the book!! although I'm quite a big fan of Cain myself....I just wish the movie would come out already!!!!! if there is going to be one.

Why does everyone keep calling Cain mean?? I love him. The theme of the first book is lost innocence; Cain wants it back. Theres lots of ********* refrences such as pudding, dolls, marionettes, cupcakes, summer, ect. He lost his innocence so young; it ******** to the outside world, knowing of all the cruelties of the world. He's not mean, vain, or conceited. Like deepwithin said, he's gorgeous and beautiful and special, but can't see if because of guilt and anguish. personally, I think the limp is a metaphor for lost innocence. [although the irony with the Cain/Cane thing cracks me up!!!] this is my favourite book and whenever I read it I'm pushed into the magic <3 <3 i really do hope it makes it to the movies so i can see who is playing Manson. He/She shall be pretty interesting. as for Cain, i agree with you. Ben Whishaw or the Gube should play him. As Gube already had a cane he does the dramatic limping well XD <3 cain forevah!!! <3 <3

Things that make the Maestro series the greatest Gothic-Horror-Romanc ever:
1. It brings people together, and they listen to Nightwish
2. Hot immortal men with severe limps in historical costumes totally rule out sparkling vampires
3. It approaches ************* amazingly
4. You can relate to the characters
5. Everyone is in love with Cain
6. All Maestro-ers are Nightwish Fans
7. All Maestro-ers fight over if Ben Whishaw or Matthew Gray Gubler will play Cain in the movie
8.VODKA
9. NIGHTWISH
10. It's beautifully written, and you want to be prudence so bad because you want to be carried by the gorgeous Maestro, Cain, who is in so much pain all the time that he can barely stand but can still carry you because he loves you...
*sigh*

no, that was her old version that was never published. i think it used to be on her website. she decided to put it back to Cain's view last year and have it take place after the accident in the time period. the old ***** was winter storm, i think. but i like the ada version better, because she talks about how cain is so hot. in cain's view though its cool to feel his pain. the verse-version of the book was on her site too, but took it off because people were posting it on websites. my boyfriend knows the author. =)

Sorry, co-co, but You're wrong. The book is a part of the Maestro series. It does take place in the 19th century, in Cain's view. She had many versions, but **** with the one about the doll-loving serial killer, and Cain having the adoptive daughter, because she liked his fatherly side. Yes, the old winter storm book in verse was on her website, but the present-day version in Ada's view never made it to publishing. too many people were taking it and puting it on other websites. I believe the first book in the Maestro series was first pubished in 2009. The author Jessica plans on making it a six book series. She calls them 'Gothic Parodies.' I'm not trying to argue or anything, but you're mixing the books up! The modern-day version hasn't been on her site in a longggg time. People who did read the winter-verse version after the accident and Ada's modern day version on her website seem to like them better, but I'm a fan of the original Maestro series, the one published. I think it's because Ada's version reminds them of Twilight, thats why they like the modern one. But Ada isn't even in the published book. Why do they love her so much??!! ****. I'm just trying to help. read the books to figure it out. I'll post the link on here from Amazon if you want. =] anyhoo, Cain is gorgeous and thats all that matters!!! Ben Whishaw must play him in the movie!! XD

It seems as if we have some competition going on between the Mr. Matthew Gray Gubler and the Mr. Ben Whishaw. What is really ironic is that they look nothing alike, yet they are competing for the same role. I have to say one thing, and that is NEVER did it say there was going to be a movie out any time soon. Not ONCE did Jessika say Mr. Gubler would be playing the role of Cain, or Mr. Whishaw. Do us Maesto-ers long for the flesh and blood of Cain Caldwell? Yes, we do. All of the Maestro-ers out there are comming together, and they all seem to think two very different people would be perfect to play Cain Caldwell. I just have to say that the rumors of the movie, and of Guber and Wishy playing Cain, are false. Someone needs to send a email to Jessika and tell her to get a director, make the movie, and have an audtition for Cain with Guber and Whishy!! BECAUSE ALL OF US MAESTRO-ERS WANT A MOVIE REALLY BADLY!!!!!!!!!!!!! ADMIT IT! SO LETS MAKE A ******** GROUP PETITION!!!!!!! p.s: I <3 YOU, CAIN CALDWELL!!!!!!!!!! NO ONE CAN DANCE LIKE YOU CAN!!!!!

hehe xD "Hot immortal men with severe limps in historical costumes"-----i agree
"No one can dance like you can"----rolling on the floor at this point!!
I'm really suprised more people are reading the series than I thought. It is my favourite, and I know that most Maestro-ers hate fangirls, BUT I AM A TOTAL FANGIRL!!!!!!!! like, twilight-obsessed O.O I love Cain to death!!!!!! I wish he was real!!! my friends and I want Guber to play Cain in the movie when there is one. Whishy, I'm not so sure yet but I'm pretty stuck on the Gube!!! Then when this becomes a mainstream series we'll start an official Mastro fan-club called the Gubloids, citizens of Gublerland!!! i know most Maestro-ers would be so mad if this became a mainstream series like Twilight, but I think it would be awesome!!! the world needs more of immortal 19th century hotties who DON'T sparkle!!!

What I find really ironic and funny, is that the character Cain looks like Marilyn Manson, and the author said that Brian Warner[MM] left a strong impression on her when creating Cain's image. She also named Manson de Graaf after his stage persona, mostly because he acts nothing like his music and personality. What I find annoying is that you are arguing over people who look nothing like the author intended Cain to look like. Long black hair, blue eyes, feminine features. Okay. So none of the guys you are talking about look like that. If I Cannot Be Loved is made into a movie, they better just get Brian Warner to play Cain's part, because he obviously fits the description, and his features were what the author generally got insperation from in the first place. So people, get your facts straight. There is no movie comming out any time soon, Matthew Gray gubler and Ben Whishaw look NOTHING like Cain, and Marilyn Manson still looks like he's 22. Rave this if you agree.

perfect bone structure?? I won't lie to you. Young Marilyn Manson(without the makeup) has been a spitting image of Cain for me. In fact, if this does turn into a movie, I think Marilyn Manson now would still be able to play Cain. Look at these pictures, from when he was young, SPITTING IMAGE!! Even though he is 41 now, I still think he'd be perfect.

@IceQueen: You do have a point. I'm so sick of all the twilight fangirls. they ruin the book. The Maestro series is getting so popular. soon all the Maestro-ers will be doing that and it won't be the same. I also hate how this is compared to Twilight. Just because theres a succubus living in cain's room, doesn't mean its a vampire novel! xD But the first book is the greatest book ever written!!! I hope Matthew plays Cain!! I want a movie <3

tehee i could go on and on about that book. just stumbled across this website today and already found something I adore :D umm....do you guys need a book sypnosis? here, I just wrote one, cuz I'm a bit obsessive hehe :P

The story starts off as Cain, our protagonist, is having a flashback. Cain’s father, a doctor with revoked liscenes, once experimented with a syrum which could make a person live forever and made his entire family immortal exept for Cain, who refused. Cain is not aloud to have any contact with the outside world, but falls in love with a beautiful gypsy named Catherine. Although the Caldwell family disowns Cain for preposing, Cain and Catherine decide to get married on Christmas morning. On Christmas eve, Cain and Catherine are riding in a carriage during a winter storm. The driver loses control and the carriage flips over into a ravine. The driver is killed, and Cain, with the carriage on top of his lower half, has his left leg entirely crushed and is left with a severe limp , forced to use a cane, which is revealed later. Cain is captured by his father and for the sake of betraying his family, is given the immortal-syrum against his wishes, putting him in extreme pain. Meanwhile Catherine is chained to the wall and is forced to watch Cain be badly beaten ...

Meanwhile Catherine is chained to the wall and is forced to watch Cain be badly beaten and flogged while the syrum causes him paralysis. An unknown person continues to torture Cain, and threatens to kill Catherine if he makes any sounds of pain or discomfort. He stays quiet until the person violently twists his left leg, the leg that was crushed, in an awkward manner. The person then shoots Catherine to death, and knocks Cain out with a blunt object.
Cain has these flashbacks often and now, twenty-two, is living alone, is constantly in extreme pain, and utterly suicidal. The syrum’s effects have made Cain so beautiful that he can almost pass for a woman, and he is greatly ashamed of looking so handsome. On his twenty-second birthday Cain ventures out into London, and finds a homeless man living on the streets named Manson DeGraaf. Manson is a lewd, quirky ex-butler who was kicked out of his master’s estate for indecent exposure. As an act of kindness, Cain takes Manson in as his new manservant because he is lonely. Manson, hesitant at first, refuses but later gives in. It is hinted throughout the book that Manson is a **********, but it never states the fact. The two then get in touch with Nero, Manson’s friend who works at a traveling carnival. He is an opera singer, has a strange obsession for marionettes, and designs clothes. We then meet Bacchus, who is a magician and falls into a deep bond with Cane [=
To make a long story short, the rest of the story involves Jack the ripper, vignettes, memento mori, crazy doctors, pudding, dolls, loss-innocence, glitter, icing, hot romance, and a beautiful cripple with a nice taste for orange tea. Just sayin’ :P

The First book is amazing. really, the way the author describes the pain, romance, loneliness....I feel like I'm standing in Cain's shoes. Beautifully written, strangely addictive. Not to mention the gorgeous creation of Cain. I think he's so beautiful he can pass for a woman. I often think Jessica made him appear older than his intended age of 19 (Guber and Whishy are both 30), but it doesn't matter. I HATE how people compare this to Twilight!!!! I read the first Maestro book before I ever picked up Twilight, and found Twilight be to be horribly written and cliche. I have no idea how that author even got published!! The only reason people probably compare is because of the beautiful immortal guy, and 'wuthering heights style romance;. But seriously, who cares?! I've read plenty of books like that. Tell me, similarities between Edward and Cain? NONE. Edward Cullen doesn't walk with a limp, Cain Caldwell isn't a vampire. The stupid Twilight Fangirls need to stop with the comparisons!! As I've seen on other sites, most fans of the Maestro series (?Maestroe-rs they call themselves?) seem to be very much alike, and I think thats the thing about the series which brings people from all over together. For one, I noticed that most are humble, and don't moan around all day like "*** ED...♥

They'd hate for the series to go mainstream, because it would become just like the Twilight Saga.(BELIEVE ME, if this got more popular it PROBABLY WOULD BE JUST LIKE THAT). It has its unique little fangroup, filled with unique people. Most have started listening to the band Nightwish. That is where the author gets all her ideas from aparently!! and all the Nightwish random references XD you know what I mean if you read the book! Most are in the Gothic subculture, yet some are not. It can relate to a wide variety of people. Plus it takess place in Victorian England so theres some wicked awesome ********** butlers and murderous aristocrats!!....please don't get mad at me. I was only stating my opinion. Hopefully people will think differently now, and stop making so many comparisons!! ♥ Cain Caldwell
