I can't imagine having someone who is just learning about internal organs be allowed to actual surgery on anyone, or anything.

Right - turn your life over to a high-school student who is learning anatomy for the first time - really makes sense - NOT!

I opened up a hamster under sedation, explored its organs, and sewed it back up in high school, and it survived, so other operations are not beyond the realm of possibility.
