  • Gregory Colbert is a Canadian film-maker and photographer best known as the creator of Ashes and Snow, an exhibition of photographic artworks and films housed in the Nomadic Museum. Colbert sees himself as an apprentice to nature. His works are collaborations between humans and other species that express the poetic sensibilities and imaginations of human and animals. His images offer an inclusive non-hierarchical vision of the natural world, one that depicts an interdependence and symmetry between humanity and the rest of life. In describing his vision, Colbert has said, '"I would define what I do as storytelling…what’s interesting is to have an expression in an orchestra—and I’m just one musician in the orchestra. Unfortunately, as a species we’ve turned our back to the orchestra. I’m all about opening up the orchestra, not just to other humans, but to other species.'"

Yes I could see where that might be an issue. I can't remember now but the children and models all had these trance like meditations and it was quite common. TY for coming on by.

'"I would define what I do as storytelling" Colbert is exactly correct. His work is wonderful and I'm envious; not so much of what he can achieve but for the ability to have access to the subjects that make for great graphic tales .

This is so very spiritual and peace-giving to the soul. They reach Nirvana to enter into a deep trance and become one with the earth and nature. Marvelous!! Thanks for posting this ♥

A stunning presentation of the photos as well. Gorgeous! The photos were sepia toned and large.(48 x 96) The gallery made of international shipping containers and hollowed. Inside it looked like a cathedral. Absolutely a stunner. However, the photos were amazing. I am an elephant lover so all the elephant pics were awe inspiring and mouth dropping.

Isn't that beautiful! I love all of them but the little girl with the elephant really stood out to me. Like something so mighty, old, and wise, with something so young and little.

Aren't they gorgeous animals. So wise and so gentle. I have a friend who collects them. I absolutely HATE what is being done to them.

Oh I would love to be there, taking the whole thing in. Great art leaves me speechless.

I am working on a trip right now to a elephant sanctuary. It is for old tired elephants. You know the retired performers. Well if you donate a certain amount I forget how much but it was pricey, you can spend a week as a volunteer to care for the animals. Getting the details as we speak. I am hoping to be able to do it in the fall.
Those creatures are an amazing animals. The greatness of character they seem to possess. Really love them.

I would love to say that I was humbled but that word is far to inadequate for the way that this poll hath moved me. I think that it would be far wiser and much more truthful to say that I was deeply moved at a very base and spiritual level.....
Thank thee so much for sharing this....
