Are ideas of hotness contagious? It's looking that way, according to a new study. Researchers showed participants in a study photos of men and women and gauged how they rated the attractiveness of these people.

What they found was that when people saw others' ratings after making their own, in later ratings, they got closer and closer to other people's overall average rating of that person.

In other words, participants *********** to the general consensus of the group. What do you think of the study? Are people more likely to think someone is attractive based on what other people think of that specific person? Or do you consider yourself more independent than that?

I really don't notice other people too much. And I don't really see too good anyway.

What makes a person attractive is who they are on the inside, their personality. ugly on the inside

Attraction is not something you arrive at by argument, ******** or research. It's primal.

If you and someone else thinks somebody is attractive, then it is less likely that you will get the person. As in you have a higher chance of failure. Wow, that was depressing....

****, I checked the wrong box again. No, I have my own taste no matter what others may think. I can see how some might be influenced by others, if they were on the fence about being hot or just OK.

The idea of beauty is different, depending on the culture standards. For Westerners, women with wide hips small waist, and full ****** will be more appealing. depending culture standards westerners women wide hips waist breast appealing Some parts of Africa, and Pacific Islanders find obese women to beautiful. http://top5s.net/wp-content/u... People create a culture and indoctrinate others to adopt a standard of beauty.

Case in point - rock stars. Mick Jagger. No thanks! Many others I can think of that the crowd goes wild for and I'm thinking - really???

Of course. Not only may they point out good traits in another person, the fact that other people are attracted to them means they are attractive, or charismatic, which is an attractive trait. That doesn't mean I WILL be attracted to them, but I'll certainly give them another look.

Some people are more physically attractive than others But when you get to know them they are ugly on the inside which counts more. I think getting to know someone can make them more attractive if they are nice.

I never understood why certain people are considered attractive. They get less attractive when they open their mouths too (eg Kim Kardashian)

I'm more likely to find the chick with the crazy clothes, the shirt that references Pinky and the Brain, and doesn't do her hair that day, than people other people find hot.

I find that other people's opinions are wrong the vast majority of the time.

It's funny everyone here said no but scientific research says yes 100% of the time for men and women. Especially women. Walk an average guy into a club and nobody notices. Walk the same guy into the same club with two supermodels on his arms and every woman in the club will be checking him out and asking about him.

That's an evolutionary effect based on subconscious instinct. If other women have accepted a male, he is more likely to be viable for mating. A loner is likely alone for a reason. Women naturally don't trust their own decision-making, and that's an evolutionary effect based on social norms over the past few millennium of male domination.

Truth is, you can overcome those instincts with knowledge and being self aware. However, since most people are stupid, they never will, and they will lie on a poll such as this because they are also under the illusion that they are their own independent thinker, when in reality, most of them are told what they should think by TV (one of those things being that they are independent thinkers).

Well yes of course. Humans are stupid in general but women are more susceptible to this than men. If a woman is considered attractive by most, a man will still input a little of his own judgement. If a lot if men want a woman the thing that comes out with men us competition. Who can get the girl, but he still may not think she is the greatest piece of *** in history. With women it's a little different. If George Clooney was a garbage man he couldn't get laid in a **********. If you take a *** out of the alley and slap a suit on him and tell everyone he owns a 10 billion dollar oil company every woman in town will be running down the street throwing their panties in the air. It's just their nature. Their all ****** lol.

The truth is somewhat in between. Many people take on a high desirability status when others talk about them with praise.

Women have a need for a "nest", a place to be safe and raise kids, and all that good evolutionary stuff. It's nature's way of making sure she's safe while at her most vulnerable and so her offspring will be taken care of. As a man our job is to provide that place and in return we get cookies and little copies of ourselves. After she no longer needs us she will turn into a a raging monster who refuses to share her cookies with us. lol

not really...i think that what makes people more attractive is who they are...not what they look like...and i've been told by some younger women that some find me attractive (even pretty ones)...though i don't particularly. By the way...I'm 54, 5'11"...and about 265 lbs. though i've been told I look good in a sports jacket, nice shirt and slacks...and tie...in other words, I clean up well...

No that's weird. It's as if society expects us to like someone just because a ***** amount of other people already do. I make my own decisions when it comes to liking someone and if I don't you will eventually know.
