I think there's a pretty big difference between what Jesus taught and what churches teach. Probably the most direct repudiation of the notion that faith in Jesus alone is enough to "save" you is Matthew 7:21...
"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven."
I think most Christians are given a completely false view of some verses too, like John 14:5,6....
Thomas said to Him, "Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?"
Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
"If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, and have seen Him."…"
Most Christians interpret that verse to mean that the only way to *** is through worshiping Jesus, I see it a little differently. To me, Jesus said "I have shown you the way. if you want to follow me, you must take my path - the way of kindness and good will and love of truth, not just in theory but as a way of life. If you want to be with Me, be at one with ***, because that's where I am."
