81-Year-Old Dies after Fight Over Parking Spot: Would You Fight for a Parking Spot

Question

Road rage carries over from the streets to the parking lots in Southern California. Robert Leonard Mix died a needless death today. A 70-year-old man allegedly attacked Mix in a dispute in a parking lot at a Costco in Redding, California.

I've seen many people get very frustrated over parking spots. My dad once got in a fight when someone attacked him over a parking spot at a grocery store. My blood boils when someone 'steals' a parking spot.

I can only offer prayers for Mix's family.

Redding.com reports:An 81-year-old Paynes Creek man died today after hitting his head during a fight with another man in the parking lot of the Redding Costco, police said.

It's very frustrating how rude people can be, and it's tempting to "fight to the finish" .... but it's not worth it. (Although it worked out pretty well in "Fried Green Tomatoes" .... TAWANDA!!!!)

If someone started it. Pretty much whoever is IN the **** thing already one.... but I have had people tell me crap when I park in a handicap space because I 'don't look' handicapped. Sorry I am not that old or over weight right now but I have several screws and plates in my left leg..and no ankle... and even then, I usually only park in the spaces when my gout flares. I just tell them the state of Texas and my doctor disagrees. I had someone key my car afterwards... saw them do it... it was on.

If you have one of those decals that says you can park in one of those spots (or if you have an obvious disability), then in my opinion, you're entitled to park there. If you have the decal but don't look it, oh well, you have the decal so your base is covered. Anyone who has a problem with that should call the cops and ask how to dispute your right to having a decal.

I have one of the hangars. I used to have the plates but I really didn't like them so I traded in for another placard... There is no 'dispute' to having a disability, the state issues the qualifications and a doctor issues the paperwork.

My point on the 'disputing' is that they should call the cops then that way the cops can all but say, "You're being a f*cktard, get a life and leave this guy alone."

If someone did somehow manage to get one when they shouldn't have, I'm sure with some proof there would be a way to have it taken away from them. But it's not my problem, so I'm not gonna waste my time on it. I see a decal (or plates) or if they have an obvious disability (even without the decal/plates) and to me, they qualify so I don't worry about it. If I see someone who looks as healthy as an Olympic athlete and doesn't have any decals/etc, then I'm gonna report it. If they shouldn't be parking there, maybe paying a $100+ fine will help them to remember the next time.

I don't have the energy to fight with someone over a parking spot. I already encounter too many idiotic and selfish people on the road while driving.

It's a parking spot, I see no sense in trying to get the very "best" one available, much less about fighting for one. I have two legs and can walk; if someone gets to a spot that I like before I do then I'll live and carry on happily.

It's only a spot and it's not worth my getting angry over, much less murdering someone for.

What makes that funny is that some of those women aren't even engaged yet. They're so hung up on the wedding part that they forgot that they need someone to be getting married to. What makes it even funnier is that there are bound to be some women who do it just for the amusement factor. Like, they aren't there to get a good deal, but more to just grab some dresses that others are clinching on and have a tug of war with them.

I guess some people are just totally immune to wisdom... It sounds to me like the men didn't have two good functioning brain cells left between them. Now one is dead and the other is probably going to be behind bars for most if not all of the rest of his life.

It really depends, but if I'm in the right, then I'm going to hope that there are many witnesses (some with enough sense to video record it), so that when the cops come out, the ***** can try explaining his crap to the cops. If I'm not feeling like getting into a fight, then I'll probably sneak by and deflate the persons tires on the passenger side so when they leave, the rims will cut the tires and then they'll have to spend a fortune to get all fixed up.
